Xeno Crisis by Bitmap Bureau got its soundtrack composed by the Norwegian electronic artist Savant, and it's pure Mega Drive FM synthesis pushed to the absolute limit. "Perimeter" kicks off with this aggressive, driving bassline that immediately sets the tone for a top-down alien shooter.

"Nest" gets claustrophobic and dark, layering these gritty synth textures that feel almost oppressive. The boss tracks go completely unhinged. What's wild is this came out in 2019 but sounds authentically like something from 1993, because it was actually written for the Genesis hardware.
No emulation shortcuts. If you love what the Mega Drive sound chip can do when someone really knows how to push it, this is essential.
