ZUN's Mystic Square score goes so hard for a PC-98 game it's honestly unfair. Akyu's Untouched Score vol.2 collects Touhou 5's soundtrack and this is where you can hear him really figuring out his sound. "Grimoire of Alice" is the standout, that melody line carries this weight that most FM synth composers never attempted.

"Plastic Mind" throws tempo shifts at you like a boss fight in audio form. And "Romantic Children" has a bounce to it that makes the whole track feel alive despite the hardware. The way some of these melodies got rearranged for later Windows Touhou games...
