Marie's Room

2018 · Windows

Marie's Room is a free, short-form narrative game about revisiting a friend's bedroom and piecing together a relationship through objects left behind. The soundtrack is perfectly restrained to match. "Marie's Theme" opens with delicate piano that sets the intimate scale immediately, and "Kelsey's Theme" introduces a second emotional thread, warmer but tinged with something unresolved.

These aren't background tracks. They're the emotional scaffolding holding the whole experience together. Every track is tied to a specific discovery. "Journal Theme" plays as you read private thoughts you maybe shouldn't be reading.

"Sparkly Shoes" and "Orange Peels" are named after the objects that trigger memories, and the music captures that strange ache of holding something mundane that suddenly means everything. "Time Travel Poster" and "Newspaper Article" carry hints of the larger story unfolding beyond the bedroom walls.

"Someday" closes things out and earns its title completely. Ten tracks, none overstaying their welcome, all serving a story that takes maybe twenty minutes to experience but lingers much longer. This is the kind of soundtrack that proves you don't need a hundred tracks or a massive orchestra to make someone feel something real.
