"Fallgrim" sets the tone with droning, decayed ambience that makes the swamp feel alive and hostile. Then you hit a boss and suddenly "Welcome To Hel" erupts with Rotting Christ's signature blackened riffs and chanted vocals.
That contrast is violent and brilliant. "Pir Threontai" for the Hadern fight and "Ze Nigmar" for Imrod each bring different shades of ritualistic intensity. The non-boss tracks like "Deep Roots" and "Sanctum" maintain this suffocating, cathedral-reverb heaviness that never lets you relax.
"Ritual at the End of Time" sounds exactly as apocalyptic as the name implies. If you play soulslikes for the oppressive vibes and wish more of them had actual metal bands scoring the boss fights, Mortal Shell delivered on that fantasy.
