Shinkai waveS / HOUJIROU

2017 · Arcade

This thing hits like a pressure wave from a deep sea vent. HOUJIROU's Shinkai waveS is arcade electronica that sounds like it was mixed inside a submarine. "DEPLOYMENT TECHNIXX" goes absolutely feral with these layered synth patterns that keep folding in on themselves, and then "Buuuuuuurstrafic" somehow takes that energy even higher with distorted bass that rattles your skull.

The title track shifts everything underwater, all muffled pads and sonar-ping melodies that feel genuinely submerged. "Fuzzy navel" sitting in the middle is this weird cocktail-lounge breather that... actually works? Nine tracks of pure arcade adrenaline compressed into something that rewards headphone sessions between credit-feeding rounds.
