The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask Game Music Soundtrack CD

2000 · Nintendo 64

The N64 sound chip doing things it was never supposed to do. Koji Kondo and Toru Minegishi scored Majora's Mask with this creeping dread that Ocarina never touched. Clock Town shifts across three days of music, each version getting more frantic, and by the Third Day track you can practically feel the moon bearing down.

Song of Healing is one of the most emotionally loaded melodies on the console, just a simple waltz that somehow carries the grief of every cursed soul in the game. Astral Observatory sits in this quiet, stargazing space that makes you forget the world is ending.

That tonal whiplash though. If you've stared up at that moon and felt the panic, this soundtrack is the reason why.
