Voodoo Vince Original Xbox game music

2003 · Xbox

Live New Orleans jazz recorded with real brass, banjo, and a theremin for an Xbox platformer about a voodoo doll. Steve Kirk composed over three hours of music for Voodoo Vince and it all sounds like a haunted street performance in the French Quarter.

"Trumpets Jammin'" is pure second line energy with horns that refuse to quit. "Crawdad Jimmy's Place" leans into zydeco territory, all swampy and groovy. "Sarcophagus Hustle" has this dark funk undertone that makes crypt levels actually fun.

The musicians played real sax, violin, mandolin, harmonica. No synth substitutes. Twenty-four tracks of surreal jazz-horror-platformer music that nobody was making in 2003 and nobody's really made since. If you missed this one on the original Xbox, the remaster brought it back for a reason.
