The PS3 had a rough start and a great finish. By the end it was full of huge, expensive-looking games, and plenty of them sold so many copies that used discs are everywhere now. That is good news if you just picked one up. Not everything on the system is cheap, though. A loose 3D Dot Game Heroes now sells for around $85, and Yakuza: Dead Souls goes for over $70. We checked recent sold prices for loose discs and kept only the games players love that go for a typical price under $25.
The good news is that some of the biggest games of the generation made the cut. Here are the 8 best cheap PS3 games.

8. The King of Fighters XIII (2010)

The King of Fighters XIII started in arcades and came to the PS3 and Xbox 360 around the world in 2011. The home versions are the ones to own, with new characters, stages and modes the arcade release did not have. Director Kei Yamamoto wanted to bring back the best parts of older KOF games and fix what went wrong in the last one. Producer Masaaki Kukino had made The King of Fighters XII, which was poorly received for its thin story and small cast. So XIII dropped XII's zooming camera and added EX moves, Hyper Drive mode and Drive Cancels.
Loose discs sold for a typical $24 between March and December 2024, so it only just makes the cut. Players who list the PS3's fighters put it right next to Street Fighter and Tekken.

7. NCAA Football 14 (2013)

NCAA Football 14 is the college football game players still hold on to. It did well with critics and sold well, and still no sequel came the next year. The team worked on the menus and presentation with a simple rule, "keep things fast" and "keep things moving". Not everyone was sold. GameSpot gave it a 6/10, praising the action on the field but not the new experience system or the recruiting. It has a Metacritic score of 77 on both PS3 and Xbox 360.
None of that slowed it down. The game stayed popular for over a decade, and fans kept making unofficial roster updates for later seasons. Loose discs sold for a typical $24.99 between December 2024 and February 2025. Football fans still call it the PS3 sports game to own.

6. Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness (2013)

Disgaea D2 is a direct sequel to Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, the 2003 PS2 game that started the series. The main characters of that game are the focus once again. It came out in Japan on March 20, 2013. The battles play the same as the other main Disgaea games, so if you know the series you know what you are getting: a tactics RPG with a sense of humor. The cast picks up some new habits, too. Etna changes colors and becomes "2P Etna", and Flonne starts oversleeping.
Loose discs sold for a typical $18 between May 2024 and March 2025. Players point out that D2 never left the PS3, which makes it one of the few reasons to keep the console plugged in.

5. Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch (2011)

Ni no Kuni is a much bigger version of Dominion of the Dark Djinn, a Nintendo DS game that came out only in Japan in December 2010. Studio Ghibli animated the cutscenes, and Joe Hisaishi co-wrote the music. It looks like you are playing a Ghibli film because, for long stretches, you more or less are. The PS3 version came out in Japan in November 2011 and reached the West in January 2013 through Namco Bandai. It sold over one million copies within fourteen months of its Western release.
Loose discs sold for a typical $7 between October 2024 and August 2025. That makes it the cheapest game on this list, by a few cents. Players still bring it up as one of the PS3's must plays.

4. Grand Theft Auto V (2013)

Grand Theft Auto V came out for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013 and broke industry sales records. It earned $800 million on its first day and $1 billion in its first three days, making it the fastest-selling entertainment product in history. You play three leads and switch between them at will outside missions. Franklin Clinton meets Michael while trying to repossess his son's car for a crooked car salesman, and the two become friends. The city of Los Santos is based on Los Angeles.
All those sales are why it costs so little now. Loose discs sold for a typical $7 between May and June 2025. Players name it in the same breath as Red Dead Redemption and The Last of Us.

3. Demon's Souls (2009)

Demon's Souls almost never left Japan. Early reactions to the demo were negative, and the game was so hard that Sony passed on publishing it anywhere else. Atlus brought it to North America in October 2009, and it found its audience in the West by word of mouth. Hidetaka Miyazaki took over as director after development ran into trouble, and he wanted players to feel a kind of silent cooperation. Online, other players can join your world as souls, with up to three of you taking on a boss together.
Loose discs sold for a typical $19 between March and September 2025. There is a PS5 remake from 2020, but players keep putting the original near the top of their PS3 picks.

2. Red Dead Redemption (2010)

Red Dead Redemption came out for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in May 2010 after more than five years of work, and it became one of the most expensive games ever made. The team went on field trips and studied classic Western films to get the look right. Bill Elm and Woody Jackson wrote the score. Dead Eye slows time so you can mark targets and fire at all of them at once. The Undead Nightmare add-on is a whole new campaign, with Marston looking for a cure for a zombie plague.
Loose discs sold for a typical $9 between July and September 2026. Players keep naming it among the best things the PS3 ever did, and at this price that is hard to argue with.

1. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (2008)

Metal Gear Solid 4 starts with bad news: Snake has only a year to live. The series dropped the old overhead camera for an over-the-shoulder view when you aim, and you can switch to first person at the press of a button. You buy weapons and ammo with Drebin Points, which you earn by picking up guns in the field. Even the little Metal Gear robot you steer around is based on the one from Snatcher, an older Hideo Kojima game. Its release gave PS3 sales a boost, and it sold six million copies by 2014.
Loose discs sold for a typical $10 between June and August 2026. Ask players what to play on a PS3 and this is the one that keeps coming back.

Which one to play
There you have it, the whole list of the best cheap PS3 games, every one under $25 for a loose disc. Most of them are among the best PS3 games at any price.
If you are not sure where to start, make it Metal Gear Solid 4. If you want a big open world, grab Red Dead Redemption first and Grand Theft Auto V after. Anyone who likes a hard fight should play Demon's Souls. JRPG fans get Ni no Kuni, and tactics fans get Disgaea D2. For a couch fighter, The King of Fighters XIII is the pick.
