The PS4 had some of the most beautiful games ever made. It also had these boxes.
10. Overpass (2020)

A buggy climbs a red rock against a pale sky under a plain black logo. It is clean enough, but it looks like a stock photo from a car brochure, and nothing about it makes you want to play.
9. Truck Driver (2019)

Four trucks are cut out and pasted around a big white title, each on its own little patch of road, and there is nothing else to look at.
8. Road Rage (2017)

A bearded biker swings an axe at a rival on a motorbike under a logo with a skull in the middle. Every part of it is trying very hard to look tough, and the result is a cover that looks like a tattoo parlour flyer.
7. Hunting Simulator (2017)

A hunter in a beanie holds his rifle while a stuffed-looking bear roars below him and a pheasant flaps past above. None of the three photos seem to belong together.
6. Babylon's Fall (2022)

A group of dark figures stands in front of a pale, crumbling tower, washed out and muddy. The game's beta drew complaints about its illegible visual style, and the box has the same problem. Its servers shut down less than a year after release.
5. Agony (2018)

A red, horned demon crouches between two burning braziers in a fiery cave. It is meant to be hellish, but it is so red and murky that the creature almost disappears into the background.
4. Jumanji: The Video Game (2019)

Four waxy 3D versions of the film's stars run toward you in front of a jungle. The faces sit right in the uncanny valley, which is not what you want on the front of the box.
3. Fast & Furious: Crossroads (2020)

A muscle car roars toward you in front of an explosion and a tank, under a big chrome logo. It is the film poster formula without the film stars, and the game behind it drew negative reviews.
2. Ghostbusters (2016)

Four dark silhouettes stand in a row under the famous logo, and that is all you get. Nobody has a face. The game takes place after the 2016 film, and it was panned by critics as one of the worst video games of that year.
1. Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back (2017)

Bubsy grins at you with a finger raised, in a white shirt with a giant red exclamation mark, over a pale blue background. He looks exactly like he did decades earlier, only shinier. The game received negative reviews from critics, so the box at least set your expectations.
The covers that got it right: the best PS4 box art.
