Death Stranding Original Score Volume 2

2021 · Playstation 5

Ludvig Forssell's second volume of original score material for the Director's Cut is massive, clocking in at nearly fifty tracks that cover every mood Death Stranding can throw at you. "Highways" and "Car Go Fast" capture the pure satisfaction of finally building road infrastructure and just driving, while "The Big Sneak" and "Corpse Disposal" nail the tension of those stealth moments where one wrong step means a voidout.

"Catcher" and "Gazer" are the BT encounter tracks that make your skin crawl, all dissonant strings and subsonic rumbles. But then the score pivots to tracks like "Haven" and "Shelter" that carry this profound tenderness.

"Mama" and "Dead Man" are character themes that hit hard if you know their stories, and "The Extinction Entity" brings the existential weight of the game's mythology crashing down on you. The back half dives into the game's wartime flashback sequences with "WWII," "Trenches," and "Vietnam," shifting the score into something more conventionally cinematic before "Tar People" and "Tarbelt" drag you back into the nightmarish present.

It's a sprawling listen, but track titles like "A Cryptobiote a Day..." and "Pizza Time" remind you that even in the apocalypse, Kojima never loses his sense of humor.
