The PS4 is a rare console where many of the best games are also some of the cheapest. Its biggest hits sold millions of copies, and used discs are easy to find now. Not everything holds up that well on price, though. A loose Sekiro sells for around $37, and Yakuza 0 goes for about $28. We checked recent sold prices for loose discs and kept only the games players love that go for a typical price under $25.
What is left would make a fine list of the best PS4 games at any price. Here are the 15 best cheap PS4 games.

15. Battlefield 4 (2013)

Battlefield 4 came out on five systems at once, the PS4 among them, in October and November. It is the sequel to Battlefield 3, and its story is set six years later during the fictional "War of 2020". Critics liked the multiplayer and the graphics but not the single-player campaign, and the multiplayer shipped with plenty of bugs and glitches. You spot enemies to mark them for your whole team, and for the first time in the series that works in the campaign too. Camos go on jets, helicopters, tanks, guns and the soldiers themselves.
Loose discs sold for a typical $5 between January and August 2025, the lowest price on this list. Players still talk about how hard it was to put down, and how it felt like a real war zone with the sound turned up.

14. Fallout 4 (2015)

Fallout 4 came out on the PS4 and other systems on November 10, 2015. It shipped 12 million units to stores and made $750 million in its first 24 hours. New to the series are settlements you build and run, plus a crafting system that turns scavenged junk into better weapons and armor. It is also the first Fallout with a fully voiced hero. Critics praised the world and the freedom, though some missed the deeper role-playing of the older games. When the main story ends, the game keeps going.
Loose discs sold for a typical $8 between February and March 2026. Players who list the PS4 games they sank the most time into keep putting it right next to The Witcher 3.

13. The Last of Us Part II (2020)

Part II is set four years after the first game and follows two people: Ellie, who wants revenge for Joel's murder, and Abby, the soldier who killed him. Neil Druckmann came back as creative director and co-wrote the story with Halley Gross. Gustavo Santaolalla came back for the score. It cost around $220 million, which makes it one of the most expensive games ever made. The story split critics, and the game was review bombed on Metacritic. It still sold over four million copies in its release weekend, the fastest-selling PS4 exclusive, and won 326 Game of the Year awards.
Loose discs sold for a typical $15 between August and September 2026. Players who list the PS4's best put it right next to the first game.

12. Days Gone (2019)

Days Gone takes place in Oregon two years after a pandemic turned a big part of humanity into zombie-like creatures the game calls Freakers. It was Bend Studio's first open-world game and its first original series since Syphon Filter in 1999. Before this, the studio had spent decades on spinoffs for handhelds. Development took about six years, and the studio nearly tripled in size to finish it. Critics were mixed at launch, knocking the mission design and technical issues while praising the graphics, the AI and Sam Witwer as Deacon. It found its audience anyway, with 7.32 million units sold by February 2022.
Loose discs sold for a typical $20 between April and May 2025, the most on this list. Plenty of players say they really enjoyed it.

11. Until Dawn (2015)

Until Dawn started life as a first-person PS3 game for the PlayStation Move controller. It turned into a PS4 horror game where every quick decision can have consequences you do not see coming. Rami Malek, Hayden Panettiere, Brett Dalton and Peter Stormare are all in the cast, in motion capture and voice. Sony did little to market it, and it sold better than expected anyway. Critics liked the branching story and the butterfly effect system but not the controls. It now has a PS5 remake from 2024 and a film from April 2025.
Loose discs sold for a typical $11 between March and May 2025. Players looking for a story game where their choices change the ending keep pointing each other to this one.

10. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (2015)

The Phantom Pain was Hideo Kojima's last work at Konami, and it came out on five systems on September 1, 2015. Snake gets a huge set of weapons and AI companions, so you can sneak through a base or go in loud. Enemy soldiers you grab in the field get carried back to Mother Base, where they help it grow and build new gear. You can even walk around the base on foot, which Peace Walker never let you do. The story split critics, but it is still called one of the greatest video games ever made.
Loose discs sold for a typical $10 between December 2024 and August 2025. Players keep naming it among the PS4's best, next to Bloodborne and The Witcher 3.

9. Infamous Second Son (2014)

Second Son is the third Infamous game and a standalone sequel to Infamous 2. Sucker Punch was closely involved with the PS4 hardware itself, and designer Jaime Griesemer traveled to Sony's headquarters in Japan to talk about improvements. The studio set the game in its hometown of Seattle so the team could draw on what it knew. Your main enemy is Brooke Augustine, the director of the D.U.P. and a Conduit with power over concrete. It sold over a million units in nine days and six million by June 2019, the fastest-selling Infamous game.
Loose discs sold for a typical $10 between July and September 2026. Players still name it next to The Last of Us when they list the PS4 games to own.

8. Grand Theft Auto V (2013)

GTA V came to the PS3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, then to the PS4 in November 2014. It broke industry sales records, earning $800 million on its first day and $1 billion in its first three. You play three leads and can switch between them at will outside missions. Franklin meets Michael while trying to repossess his son's car for a crooked car salesman, and the two become friends. Los Santos is based on Los Angeles, and some of the team did field research around California to capture footage for the designers.
Loose discs sold for a typical $9 in August 2025. Players keep putting it on their lists of PS4 essentials.

7. Ghost of Tsushima (2020)

You play Jin Sakai, a samurai trying to protect Tsushima Island during the first Mongol invasion of Japan. You can face enemies head on with your katana or pick them off with stealth. Sucker Punch made it after Infamous because the studio wanted a game built around melee combat. The team visited Tsushima twice and took a lot from samurai films, Akira Kurosawa's above all. It came out in July 2020, late in the PS4's life, and sold over 13 million units by September 2024.
Loose discs sold for a typical $15 between March and May 2026. Players still praise both the look and the play of it.

6. NieR: Automata (2017)

Automata is the sequel to Nier, with creator Yoko Taro back to direct. The goal was a sequel that stayed faithful to Nier while improving the combat system. To get there, Square Enix brought in PlatinumGames, the studio known for Bayonetta. The shooting parts were based on bullet hell games, and fights switch between camera views. The PC version had technical problems that were not fixed until 2021, so the PS4 was the better place to play it for years. Sales beat expectations, passing ten million copies by February 2026.
Loose discs sold for a typical $14 between March and August 2025. Players single out the story and the soundtrack.

5. Persona 5 (2016)

Persona 5 came out in Japan in September 2016 and around the world on April 4, 2017. Katsura Hashino directed it, with Shigenori Soejima back on character design and Shoji Meguro on music. Its story is about breaking free of the limits of modern society, and the party's Personas are based on literary outlaws and rebels. It was first meant for late 2014, but it slipped several times because it was not finished. Counting Royal, it is the best-selling Megami Tensei game, with over 11.8 million copies sold by June 2026.
Loose discs sold for a typical $10 between December 2024 and April 2025. Royal, the expanded version, goes for about $14, so the original is the cheaper way in. Plenty of players give it as their answer without needing to explain why.

4. Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018)

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a prequel to the 2010 game, and its development lasted over eight years. Rockstar put all of its studios on it as one large team, and it became one of the most expensive video games ever made. The work included a crunch schedule of 100-hour weeks. It came to the PS4 and Xbox One in October 2018 and made $725 million in its opening weekend, the second-biggest launch in the history of entertainment. Within eight days it had passed the lifetime sales of the first game. Woody Jackson wrote the score, and it won more than 175 Game of the Year awards.
Loose discs sold for a typical $12 between March and April 2026. To a lot of players it is the obvious pick.

3. Horizon Zero Dawn (2017)

Horizon Zero Dawn was Guerrilla Games' first new series since Killzone in 2004, and its first open-world game. Director Mathijs de Jonge thought it was the riskiest idea the studio pitched. It is set in a post-apocalyptic United States where big robotic machines rule and people live in tribes. The team asked anthropologists how the world should decay and robotics experts how the machines should look. It came out on the PS4 in February 2017 and has sold over 24 million units.
Loose discs sold for a typical $10 between June and September 2026. Players who list the PS4 exclusives to play still put it next to Uncharted 4.

2. God of War (2018)

God of War moved Kratos from Greek myth to Norse myth, in ancient Scandinavia. Creative director Cory Barlog called it a reimagining of the series. The biggest change is the weapon: Kratos now fights with a magic battle axe, the Leviathan Axe, instead of his chained blades. Critics loved the bond between Kratos and his son Atreus. It was named Game of the Year by many outlets. It sold more than five million copies in its first month and 23 million by November 2022, the best-selling game in the series.
Loose discs sold for a typical $10 between July and September 2025. Players call it a must play and an easy choice.

1. Bloodborne (2015)

Bloodborne sends a Hunter into Yharnam, a Gothic city in the Victorian style whose people are sick with a disease carried in the blood. Sony's Japan Studio asked FromSoftware to work on something together, and director Hidetaka Miyazaki asked about making a game for the new consoles. The Rally system rewards you for hitting back: strike an enemy right after taking damage and you win back some of the health you lost. Many melee weapons are "trick weapons" that switch between two forms. Miyazaki drew on Lovecraft's Cthulhu stories, and the game is often cited as one of the greatest ever made.
Loose discs sold for a typical $14 between June and August 2025. Plenty of players answer with that one word and nothing else.
